Summary
This project created resources in the form of a comprehensive public Venetian wellhead catalog to promote the preservation of Venetian wellheads. They also helped to increase public awareness by the creation of walking tours, an educational program, web pages, and promotional merchandise. The team conducted their own field study to complete a computerized catalog. The data collected for the database was based on three main criteria. The database allowed to analyze the results and determine which wellheads had the highest need of restoration.
To create public awareness about the wellheads, various groups of people were targeted. An educational program was for teachers to incorporate wellheads into the classroom and a walking tour was created with three supplemental tours to the APT series Venice Beyond Saint Mark’s. Supplemental tours were also created in collaboration with Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s 2000 External Sculpture Team, which supplied information about the wellheads and pieces of public art located along these preexisting tours. Tools such as Posters, postcards, calendars, and bookmarks were created for future fundraising groups.
